Does PIXSY work with Creative Commons photos?
Yes! We support photographers who use Creative Commons and open licensing. There is no distinction between photos published under Creative Commons or standard license terms. Licensing under Creative Commons does not in any way affect your remedies if the photo was used outside the license terms.
With that in mind, Pixsy recommends that photographers choose wisely when selecting a Creative Commons license type as these licenses are non-revocable. Here is a brief summary of two representative Creative Commons license types:
Attribution (CC-BY): Allows for any type of use, including commercial use, as long as visible attribution appropriate to the medium is provided.
Attribution-Non-Commercial (CC-BY-NC): Allows for non-commercial use of your work as long as visible attribution appropriate to the medium is provided. Generally speaking, this includes use “in any manner that is primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or private monetary compensation, (source). Most Creative Commons users agree that this includes use on pages monetized via advertising (excluding non-profit sites).
