Human-led copyright enforcement, no automated letters

Quick Summary

Every Pixsy case and letter is checked by a real person, not a bot. Photographers and businesses that get our letters can always reach our team.

Yes, a real person handles every Pixsy case, for the photographers we work for and for the businesses we write to. Software finds where images are being used online. After that, people take over. They check each case, prepare each letter, read and answer every reply, and handle the payment. Neither Pixsy nor our partner law firms send automated mass letters.

Our team is made up of copyright experts, lawyers, photographers, dedicated customer support specialists and software developers, and we work with 30 partner law firms around the world.

The short version

If you're a photographer

  • You choose, we review. You choose which matches to pursue, and a case manager checks every case before anyone is contacted.
  • One named case manager. Every email you send us is read and answered by a person, not a bot.
  • Everything in one app. Monitor your images 24/7, sort matches by country and commercial use, send takedown notices and follow every case's progress, all in one place.

If you received a letter from us

  • Reviewed by a person. A member of our team checked your case and contacted you directly.
  • Answered by a person. Every reply is read and answered by a real person, usually within 3 to 5 business days.
  • Talk to us. Send us a license, ask questions or explain your situation, and we'll walk you through your options.

If you've received a letter from Pixsy

It's not spam and it's not a scam. Pixsy has worked for photographers and artists since 2014. A member of our team sent your Unauthorized Use letter (sometimes called a demand letter) after checking the case.

Before we wrote to you, a case manager checked:

  • that our client owns the image
  • where and how the image is being used or distributed
  • that the use is commercial
  • that the use is unlicensed

When you reply, a real person reads it and answers, usually within 3 to 5 business days. No bots and no auto-replies. We act for the photographer, and we'll be clear and direct with you about your options.

Have a license, or not sure what to do next? Our guide for businesses that received a letter explains how to check your case, send us a license and settle. You can also just reply to the email you received.

Why a person checks every case

Every case is investigated by our experienced team, never handled by automation. We review who owns the image, where and how it's used and confirm the use is unlicensed. We gather the evidence, research the business and the right contact, and price the case using the image's license history and industry-standard licensing rates. Then we prepare a letter tailored to that case and manage every reply.

No letter goes out until that review is complete. So every letter we send is about real, unlicensed commercial use, backed by evidence. That's a big part of why 99% of our cases settle without going to court.

Working with our legal partners

If a case isn't settled, we escalate it to one of our 30 partner law firms for legal enforcement. They pick it up with the evidence, case file and pricing our team has already prepared, and they handle the specific requirements of each jurisdiction, document and signature collection and, when needed, court proceedings. That's how we drive cross-border enforcement for creators around the world. For a business that receives our letter, settling with us is almost always faster and costs less than legal action.

What happens to your case

  1. Our software watches the web around the clock and finds where your images appear.
  2. You look through the matches, check you haven't licensed the image to that user, and submit the ones you want to pursue as cases.
  3. Our team takes it from there: the review, the letter, every reply and, if the business won't settle, escalation to our international legal network.
  4. When the case settles, our finance team pays you.

You'll have one case manager the whole way through, and we update you at each step.

When you email us

You'll hear back from a real person, usually within 3 to 5 business days. Many of our team are photographers too, so they understand what it's like to find your work used without permission.

Getting paid

When a case settles, our case managers and finance team handle the invoicing, remittance advice and tax documentation. They also manage foreign exchange and local currency conversion. We pay your share in US dollars straight to your bank account, and it arrives in your local currency.

Software finds the image. Our team builds the case.

Pixsy's image monitoring runs 24/7, using reverse image search to find where your photos are used online, even when they've been cropped or edited. Every match lands in your dashboard, where you can review it by country, category and commercial use. Finding the image is only the start.

Our team reviews all the key aspects of the case and use, builds the evidence, identifies the business responsible and handles every response until the case is resolved. That's the work that gets photographers paid, and it's done by experienced people.

"Software finds the image. People do the rest. Every case gets a real person who checks the facts before anyone is contacted, and a real person answers every reply, from the photographers we work for and from the businesses we write to. That's what gets results and keeps things fair."

Kain Jones, CEO and co-founder, Pixsy

Once the case settles, our finance team pays your share in US dollars to your bank account, and it arrives in your local currency. We handle the invoices and tax documents for you.
